Toei Tokusatsu Blu-ray Project

I haven't seen a lot of people talk about this on tokusatsu spaces at all but Toei not too long ago announced a project where they will be doing a Blu-ray release for every tokusatsu show that wasn't on Blu-ray before. Well sorta at least. The fans have to vote on which show gets a Blu-ray rather than Toei.

Blu-ray

As someone who is into that sorta thing I got quite excited because that means we get to see some old stuff like never before. A good HD restoration can make any film look like it was shot yesterday as seen by the Kamen Rider 4K restoration a while back. Yes 16mm (What those shows would have been shot on) looks a grainy compared to 35mm but that doesn't make it any less beautiful.

If I personally had to choose, I would pick Timeranger or Zyuranger. Timeranger at its current state looks utterly horrendous. Apparently Toei DVD masters just sucked like that and it's a shame such a critically acclaimed show looks like ass. Toei is not likely to do a proper scan of the film but at least they should upscale the VTR masters. And a Zyuranger HD scan (since it was finished on film) would pave the way for HD Power Rangers. Like if you are gonna backpedal of MMPR, At least give it to us in HD or even better, 4K. I bet those colours would look insane.

Though what I really wanna see is a HD remaster for Kuuga. Not the upscaled version Toei did for the Blu-ray, A proper remaster using the HDCAM tape masters with re-done effects. I think it would look absolutely phenomenal and Toei did kind of do this for the first two episodes of Kuuga but it was also released on DVD, completely negating the purpose of that thing in the first place.
