A problem with piracy I've experienced
Another piracy post, But this time It's more individualistic.
One thing I have realized about pirating stuff, Is that it really reduces meaningful consumption and increases the heck out of the chance of being burnt out.
So, What do I mean by this? Because piracy is free, You get a wide range of stuff. If you play a game for a few minutes and you get bored, Well? Since you don't have to pay you can just download another game, Play that for a few minutes and once you get bored with that, You can abandon it and downloader more. And it's a cycle. You play, You abandon and so on and so forth and then suddenly your hard drive is completely full of random games and now you are incredibly burnt out and overwhelmed by the games in your hard drive and you stop playing for a while.
I think most pirate gamers have bragged about how many games they have installed thanks to piracy, But do they really play them? Most gamers who pay for games don't actually finish them and that number is probably much worse with piracy because with so much material, It promotes disposability and continues to fuel our hyperconsumerist world.
Same with films and books, You can have gigabytes of it but never actually get to any of it. There is too much choice and you burn out.
Not saying that piracy causes these things, But it sure does help intensify our awful behaviours.
